Job Key Performance Areas Development and implementation of Safety, Health and Wellness strategies for Arcelor Mittal South Africa Develop and coordinate the implementation of Safety, Health and, Wellness programs to assure management takes the necessary actions to address concerns and raise employee awareness – OHSACT Custodian to business Serve as liaison between Arcelor Mittal Group, Arcelor Mittal South Africa and Business Unit Management and employees Advise management on government regulations relating to Safety and Health and recommend necessary actions to attain compliance Identify safety/health hazards inherent in the organization’s operations and establish guidelines for protection from those hazards Audit existing programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions Monitor existing and potential concerns and recommend priorities for resolution Coordinate necessary recourses for successful implementation of identified programs Analyze periodic performance reports for trends and conditions and alert line management to problems Investigate major accidents or problem areas and recommend preventative measures Provide guidance in the develop of training and awareness programs Report on Arcelor Mittal South Africa’s Safety and Health performance and develop various business unit specific programs in achieving group’s targets Maintain relationships with relevant regulatory and government agencies Represent Arcelor Mittal’s interests at relevant forums Prepare proposals, monthly reports and presentations Manage staff performance and budgets Ensure implementation of strategic action plan Qualifications Applicable B-Degree discipline based (NQF 8/10) and preferably a Management Development Program A relevant qualification in Safety/Contract Management and Certification in OHSAS 18000 will be advantageous Relevant qualification in Quality Management and Certified Quality Auditor status will be an advantage Knowledge and Experience Sound Health, Safety and Wellness knowledge and exposure within an industrial environment Good understanding of relevant operational processes Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation Able to formulate strategies and business goals within this environment Computer literacy (MS Office, SAP modules and related software programs) Personal Attributes Sound business acumen and an ability to think strategically Strong communication and presentation skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good bilingual capabilities Good interpersonal skills, including a high level of discretion and diplomacy and ability to manage conflict and gain consensus commensurate with this senior position Analytical, benchmarking, problem solving and co-ordination skills Dynamic with high energy levels Ability to influence relevant external agencies and make recommendations
